ZDF STUDIOS PARTNERS WITH SLY FOX PRODUCTIONS TO DEVELOP NEW BRITISH WHODUNIT DRAMA THE PET SITTER MYSTERIES
3rd December 2023

The Pet Sitter Mysteries (8 x 45’), based on the best-selling novels by Blaize and John Clement, is being developed by ZDF Studios and sees Sly Fox Productions  reunite with Queens of Mystery writer and creator Julian Unthank at the helm.

The eight-part series will be set in Sandbanks on Dorset’s stunning south coast, one of the UK’s most exclusive locations. Home to the mega rich featuring golden beaches, designer houses and yachts captained by loutish Lottery Winners and reclusive billionaires, Sandbanks is crammed full of glamorous, suntanned, excessively wealthy eccentrics. It is also home to Dixie Hemingway, a professional pet-sitter and former policewoman who was forced to resign for reasons she’d rather not to go into...

QUEENS OF MYSTERY NAMED AS NEW YORK TIMES' TV PICK OF THE WEEK - TWICE!

11th April 2019

We're delighted that 'Queens of Mystery' has twice been named as a New York Times 'Pick of the Week'.

On 6th April, Kathryn Shattuck, selected the launch of the show as the paper's sole TV choice for the week ahead:

"While he was writing witty bits for Martin Clunes’s crank in “Doc Martin,” Julian Unthank began to wonder where all the strong women over 40 had gone to on British television. So he conjured up a few.

"Queens of Mystery" debuting Monday, April 8, on the streaming service Acorn TV, follows the whimsical antics of Matilda Stone, an “Amélie”-esque detective sergeant — stylish bob, missing mother, candy-colored daydreams — who has returned to Wildemarsh, the home of her three crime-writing aunts, Beth (Sarah Woodward), Cat (Julie Graham) and Jane (Siobhan Redmond)."

And on 11th April, Margaret Lyons, chose it as one of three shows to watch, alongside new Netflix launch, 'Special', and the return of the hit series 'Game of Thrones' - we have new four Queens competing for that throne!

"If you like “Pushing Daisies,” this is your next jam. We’ve got a fairy-tale-style omniscient narrator who notes the exact years, months and days since certain events; oddball aunts who raised a bookish niece; and police investigations that are more whimsical than gory. Olivia Vinall plays Matilda, a detective who developed her skills thanks to her aunts’ careers as crime novelists. Acorn is releasing three two-part stories; the first is available now, and the second and third debut on April 15 and 22."

ZDF ENTERPRISES BOARDS 'QUEENS OF MYSTERY'

10th April 2019

The Queens are going global as ZDF Enterprises acquire distribution rights for non-English language territories for 'Queens of Mystery'. They and will be working alongside Acorn Media International who will be selling “Queens of Mystery” in English-language markets.

ZDF Enterprises was founded in 1993 as a commercial subsidiary of ZDF, one of the largest and most renowned TV broadcasters in Europe. They are in relatively short supply in a market full of serialized fare, but “Queen of Mystery” is one of several new titles seeking to fill that gap and meet buyer demand."

Acorn Media Enterprises, had commissioned QUEENS OF MYSTERY from Sly Fox Productions in association with Ferncroft Media for Acorn TV, North America’s largest streaming service for British and international television. Created for television by writer Julian Unthank (Doc Martin, New Tricks), the first series of QUEENS OF MYSTERY has already made its North American premiere as an Acorn TV Original. The circular screen marks the point where Floyd moved from improvised light shows to preconceived moving images. The band wanted to take things further, they saw the visual possibilities of having something which was structured, spatial and more connected to their music…

Ian Emes - The Pink Floyd Animator

Who were Pink Floyd’s greatest artistic collaborators?

Pink Floyd worked with industry leaders across a number of creative platforms – such as Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell, the design duo behind many of the band’s most iconic album covers; Mark Fisher and Jonathan Park, the architecture and engineering duo who realized some of their most memorable stage sets; Ian Emes an artist whose animations appeared on Pink Floyd’s circular screen when they performed live.

ACORN PRODUCTIONS INKS DEAL WITH SLY FOX PRODUCTIONS TO DEVELOP A SLATE OF NEW BRITISH TV DRAMAS

13th January 2015

Acorn Productions, the UK rights and production arm of RLJ Entertainment, has entered into an exciting new collaboration with drama producers Linda James (Valhalla Rising, Submarine) and Tim Vaughan (William and Mary, A Touch of Frost) and their new London based independent production company, Sly Fox Productions.

Hilary Strong (Managing Director, Acorn Productions) and Basi Akpabio (Creative Director, Acorn Productions) brokered the deal and will work closely with Linda and Tim to develop and produce a broad slate of new television drama for UK and US broadcasters. Under the arrangement, RLJ Entertainment will grow its global content pipeline through Stuart Shaw (Managing Director, RLJE International) by taking distribution rights in the finished programming created by Sly Fox Productions. Hilary and Stuart will both join Linda and Tim on the board of Sly Fox Productions.

Hilary Strong advised:

‘Acorn Productions are guardians of some of the world’s most iconic and widely-loved characters and stories, most famously Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. The relationship with Sly Fox Productions signifies a new way of working for Acorn, and is a hugely exciting development for us and RLJ Entertainment’s wider strategy; strengthening our ambitious plans to build our content base and continue bringing drama of the highest quality to an international audience.

To date the business model used for co-ventures of this type in the UK has involved production businesses taking equity stakes in creative start-ups. We have developed a different model, enabling Linda and Tim to retain 100% of their equity, but still to be umbrella’d by us, with all of the security and upside that brings. We will be looking to replicate that model with other creative teams focusing on television drama.’

Linda James and Tim Vaughan are recognised for their talent and passion for outstanding screen entertainment, providing producer, writing and production management skills at the highest level. Linda is maybe best known as the co-creator of Red Rooster Films, one of the most successful and prolific drama production companies in the UK during the nineties.

Commenting on the new relationship with RLJ Entertainment, Linda James said,

‘Tim and I are delighted to be in business with Acorn Productions and their colleagues at RLJ Entertainment. We appreciate the expertise and experience that Hilary, and her team, brings to the aptly named 'Collaboration Agreement'. To be able to tap into the resources and knowledge that their financial, legal and distribution departments provide is very valuable to us, they have a company culture and infrastructure that is supportive and nurturing. Tim and I set out to secure a situation that would allow us to create and produce high quality, ambitious drama and we believe this deal with Acorn will allow us to do precisely that.'
